As we travel around Iceland, our diary is a simple way to let our readers know what we’ve been up to over the last few days. Expect much more detailed posts once we return home.
Diary posts so far:
Part 1
Iceland travel diaries part two starts now.
Day 3
After spending the night in the highlands, we went to explore this area a bit more, focusing on the Fjallabak Nature Reserve and one of its most scenic places – Landmannalaugar. The road over there is just pure beauty, the landscape looks from another planet! This also allowed us to try some of the rough Icelandic highland roads with our four-wheel drive.
Day 4
We made our way to the southwest coast and the Vík area. Once on the ring road two of the major waterfalls show up: Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. On the second we hiked a little up to a point between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull. Closer to our destination we visited Cape Dyrhólaey, a bird nesting reserve with magnificent views. Finally, in Vík we went to the windy black sand beach.
Day 5
First day we truly saw some sun! We took a short ferry ride to Vestmannaeyjar, an archipelago, and its main and inhabited island Heimaey. The island is totally worth a visit. We hiked to the top of a volcano – Eldfell, to enjoy some stunning views of the whole place. Oh, and we got the chance to hold a puffin!
As usual, check some of our photos and pop back later for more.
